Snacks

I am sure many of you are like me and love to snack. It contributed to my weight gain as I mentioned in an earlier post.

If you want to lose weight or maintain a healthy/healthier life style then you can snack, yes I said it snacking is alright if done in a healthy way.

You don't want to sit down at the computer and consume a bag full of chips because as we all know all to well this will not give you the result you so desperately seek.

But if you are finding you are hungry between meals then it is alright to have and apple or a small salad to hold you over till your next meal. I will explain more in a later post on eating habits and calories balancing.

I have struggled with this many times. I want to eat healthy but get board of plain healthy snacks. Sometimes I just get stuck trying to find fun healthy snacks. That is why I decided to write about it.

I want to find more healthy snacks to fit in to my diet or "healthy lifestyle". Here are just some of the snacks that I like.

Popcorn- is a good choice because it has some fiber and protein in it (if you look your favorite bag of chips it has none). You have to make sure you get lower fat versions.

You could pop your own that way you have control over what goes in it. Try using some of your favorite seasonings on it to spice it up.

Fruit and Fruit smoothies- Fruits are packed full of nutrients your body needs. Each fruit is full of healing properties so make sure you mix it up to benefit from all they have to offer.

Just remember everything has calories so just because it is healthy and good for you does not mean you should eat the Guinness book of world records size bowl of fruit salad. Eat it in moderation and it is a great snack.

My all time favorite snack/desert substitute is fruit smoothies! This helps to curve my sweet cravings and they are just packed with so much nutrition!

Vegetables- Almost all the diet books, shows, and website I have read tell you eat as many as you would like on any diet. Veggies are high in fiber which helps you stay fuller longer.

You can eat a monster sized salad for hardly any calories. The dressings, cheeses, and other toppings are what bring up the calories. Luckily everyone seems to been on a health kick these days so there are so many lighter lower calories dressing out now so you just have to search out the one you  like.

I found a great yogurt ranch dressing to die for(Litehouse Kefir cultures Yogurt Ranch Dressing in a glass bottle). I all so love my vinaigrettes as well. My favorite vinaigrette has 40 calories and no sat. fat.

This is one of your best diet weapons and your body will love you for it.

Nuts- There are many health benefits to eating different nuts. This is another snack you want to eat and moderation.  Remember losing weight and keeping it off is all about calories in and the calories you burn. I really enjoy almonds and my dog loves them too lol.

Chips and Dip- This is one thing I have all ways loved. Chips and dip are the perfect combination of yummy. I do not eat these as a staple food in my diet but every once in awhile mostly on my splurge day I will enjoy some of my favorite snack. I found a healthier way to do it. I get the multi-grain chips and yogurt spinach dip and I am in heaven.

Yogurt- This is a great option you can get the calcium you need and the greek yogurts have tons of protein. If you are kicking your but in the gym then this is a good snack to give back to your muscles. You muscles need the protein to grow bigger and stronger.

In short you can enjoy any food you love in moderation but try to challenge yourself to find a way to do it a little healthier it will pay of in the long run.

Check back tomorrow for my smoothie and yogurt parfait recipes.

If you have any healthy snack ideas please share them by leaving a comment I would love to learn some new recipes as well as share more of mine.
